I’ve heard, and it seems right to me that the evil one tempts us but God tests us. God never tempts us. The difference, as I understand it, is that the evil one tempts us by holding out something in front of us that looks desirable but would be harmful for us, something against what God wants. When God tests us, He does this to try our faith, our loyalty to Him. This is for our benefit because He knows ahead of time whether we will be faithful to Him or not. I think I got that mostly right.
God and Abram are having a talk. We’ve read that passage many times. So many that we probably don’t pause to think that this is a human being is talking with God. It just seems reasonable . . . in the OT, that is.

I cringed at the doctor’s suggestion. A nerve conduction study. Right. Zap the nerve that has had me limping and losing sleep for months. Make it hurt even more. Good plan…but necessary so they can discover where the pinching originates. As the day approached, I prayed more consistently and constantly but my mind kept reminding me of the last time I had one and the tearful screams as that needle…oh, my.
