Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. (Matthew 24:34)
The cross loomed menacingly just days away. Jesus’ mind was already on that fateful day as He traversed the crowded streets of Jerusalem. As His disciples marveled at the grand architecture of Herod’s Temple, Jesus’ thoughts were on the future of His impending death and beyond. “See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down” (Matthew 24:2). A lot of people don’t understand that. “Knowing” in the Bible is referring to a deep emotional intertwining with God. And even then, we can only know a little about Him. An old Catholic Saint said there are three ways we come to know God. The first level is knowing Him by knowing He created everything. The second level we come to is knowing Him by understanding His purpose in creating everything. And the third and final realization we come to is that we cannot know God (not in His entirity).
We humans find much comfort in thinking we “know” something, and when our beliefs are threatened, we get fearful or angry. If we’re emotionally aware, we’ll realize that if we we’re truly secure, we would not get upset at things that threatened our beliefs. We would simply know that we really can’t even know, for certain, that we think we know right now. There is much power in saying “I don’t know” And being okay with it. God’s got everything worked out. That’s all I know for sure. The rest of it could be wrong, and I’m okay with that. Just getting to experience God daily is more than enough for me.
Good post.
